Nokia Blue? Next Nokia update could be called ‘Lumia Cherry Blossom Pink’ instead

Nokia always has a special version of ever Windows Phone update for their own Lumia devices. For GDR2 they had “Amber,” and for GDR3 there was “Black.” Earlier this week we heard a rumor that said Nokia’s Windows Phone 8.1 update will be called “Nokia Blue.” In that article we mentioned that “Blue” doesn’t follow along with the alphabetical naming pattern Nokia is using. Turns out we may have been right.

New screenshots from a Chinese website show the name “Lumia Cherry Blossom Pink” as the name for Windows Phone 8.1. This color would indeed follow the alphabetical patter Nokia is using. However, this wouldn’t be the first time Nokia has used a codename for an OS update. You may recall that the Lumia Black update was originally called “Bittersweet Shimmer.” The only difference is that when they eventually switched the name to “Black” it still followed the naming pattern. “Blue” would not.
We do believe that Cherry Blossom Pink will not be the final name of the update, but we are curious now about Blue. It makes perfect sense for Nokia to use Blue since that was Microsoft’s own codename for Windows Phone 8.1.
