YouTube gets with the times, allows fans to create GIFs from videos

Comment sections everywhere, brace yourselves! Google has just introduced a new feature that enables the quick creation of GIFs straight from Youtube videos. The feature allows users to specify a start and end point for the GIF from a Youtube video, set captions, and then quickly converts the video clip for easy sharing. YouTube even hosts the file for you, so you won’t need to find another site to host your GIF.

You should note that the function isn’t available on many videos just yet. Instead, Google seems to be gradually rolling out the feature across content. Perhaps videos need processing first or Google may wants to spare its servers from a rush of GIF enthusiasts.
If you want to check out the feature for yourself, one of the first channels spotted with the GIF creator was the PBS’ Idea Channel. Simply click the share button beneath the video and click on the GIF option. Select your start and end points and you are ready to share your GIF.
While we wait for Youtube’s latest feature to rollout, there is always gifyoutube.com to satisfy your GIF creating needs.
